Here’s the recipe:
- Take one tightly-coupled plot with four interwoven PoVs.
- Decide, after two of those threads are completely done and a third is coming up on the Act 3 break, to rearrange the plot so the threads end at the same time.
- Realize that the two completed threads are the ones that need to be rearranged, because they are the ones that require less calendar time.
- Break several subplots into tiny pieces and rearrange them, adjusting on the fly for new developments that arise in the rewriting.
I never solved Rubik’s Cube, but for some reason I feel confident I can handle this. The first 100K words of this operation have gone surprisingly well.
